Dental care under sedation

Sedation, i.e. light general anaesthesia, is a medicine-induced relaxation always performed by an anaesthetist. When sedated, a patient is awake during the entire treatment, but due to the effect of the sedative, the patient feels relaxed. The sedation alleviates pain and afterwards, the patient does not have a clear memory of the treatment.

Sedation can be used in 1–2-hour treatments for patients with dental anxiety or phobia, and several treatment procedures can be implemented during the same appointment. The patient must always have someone accompanying them who can stay with them until the following morning. Driving is not allowed after the procedure.

Sedation is a procedure compensated for by Kela.
